JOHN MAURER

Pratum, Oregon.— John Maurer, 90, long-time resident of Pratum, died recently at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Cherrington of Salem, following a lingering illness. He had made his home with his daughter since the summer of 1942.

Born in Switzerland where he was a cheesemaker by profession, he came to the United States in 1885, and three years later married Lina Merz of Switzerland, who died in 1918. They made their home in Berne, Ind., until 1904, and after a brief residence in North Dakota, came to the Pratum community in 1911, where they purchased a small farm.

Survivors include four children, John C. Maurer of Gwinner, N. D., Elda L. McDonough, Ida E. Buetler and Mrs. George (Gertrude A.) Cherrington, all of Salem; two grandchildren Leon W. and Mertis M. Mauer [sic], both of Stirum, N. D., and two great grandchildren, Judith Ann and John Arthur Maurer, both of North Dakota.

Funeral services were held from the W. T. Rigdon chapel, with the interment in Pratum cemetery. Rev. Homer Leisy, Dallas, and Rev. William Regier, Pratum, officiated.— From The Oregon Statesman.
