Katie M. Entz

Katie M. Entz was born Feb. 25, 1893 on a farm three and one-half miles east of Newton, and departed this life May 13, 1927, at the age of 34 years, 2 months and 17 days. When only nine years of age she lost her beloved mother. On May 15, 1910, she was baptized upon confession of her faith and was received into the First Mennonite church where she was a faithful member to the end. She stayed with her aged father, being privileged to care for him to the time of his departure from this life. About two years ago her health began to fail more or less and last fall her condition became so serious that she entered Bethel hospital on Oct. 1. But neither the best of care nor the skill of physicians could turn the tide of her slowly vanishing health. Hoping that a change of climate might bring about a change to the better she left for Phoenix, Ariz., being accompanied by her only sister and one of her bothers. For a short time her condition improved considerable but only to give way to a change and she soon lost all she had gained and gradually sank to the brink of the grave. To the last her health failed so unexpectedly fast that it was impossible to bring her back home as had always been planned. The large number of letters and cards she received during her sickness were a great comfort and help to her. On Friday, May 13, the hour of relief had come and she was permitted to “go home” to be with the Lord.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2:00 in her home conducted by Rev. A. Warkentin and at 3:00 in the First Mennonite church where words of comfort were spoken by Rev. B. Regier and Rev. H. J Dyck. Interment was made in Greenwood cemetery where she now lies to await the great resurrection morn. — Exchange.
