● Services for Alvin R. Schmidt, 78, of Newton were held Saturday, Nov. 20, at the Grace Hill Mennonite Church, rural Whitewater, with Kenneth Taylor officiating. Schmidt died Nov. 18 at Axtell Christian Hospital. He was born March 6, 1904 in McPherson County to Henry D. and Katherina Reimer Schmidt and married Mabel Schroeder on June 17, 1931. She survives of the home. Also surviving are a son, Alvin Schmidt, Jr., of Wichita; two daughters, Evelyn (Mrs. Glen H.) Yakle of Newton and Margaret (Mrs. Bert) Wilson of Wichita; three brothers, Abe R. of Newton, Ted R. of Walton and Ruben R. of Moundridge; six grandchildren and one great-grandson. A daughter, Caroline, preceded him in death. | |||
