● Mrs. Marie E. Schmidt, 94, widow of Henry P. Schmidt, died Friday afternoon at the Bethel Home for Aged. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at the Grace Hill Mennonite Church east of Newton, of which she was a member, with Rev. E. J. Miller officiating. Mrs. Schmidt was born in South Russia in 1872. She and her husband were longtime residents of the grace Hill community, moving to Newton 29 years ago. Mr. Schmidt died in 1957. Surviving are six daughters, three sons, 21 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. D. W. Schmidt of Wichita and Mrs. Gus Ewert of Whitewater. | |||
