Pauline (Banman) Peters, 69, a pastor's assistant of Newton, died March 10 at Newton Medical Center. Funeral services were held March 13 at First Mennonite Church, Newton, with James Dunn officiating. Burial was in Bergthal Mennonite Cemetery, Pawnee Rock. A native of Hillsboro, she had lived in Newton since 1984, moving from Pawnee Rock. Survivors include her husband, Gerhard; one son, Robert of Beloit; three daughters, Charmaine Fast of Newton, Caroline Kirkpatrick of Dallas, and Roberta Mabee of Bettendorf, Iowa; three brothers, Ewald of Great Bend, Arnold of St. Joseph, Mo., and Marvin of Hillsboro; two sisters, Wanda Salvatierra of Hutchinson and Hulda Thiessen of Buhler; and seven grandchildren.

Pauline Peters

Pauline Peters, daughter of Frank W. and Mary (Flaming) Banman, was born June 9, 1921, near Hillsboro, Kan. She died March 10, 1991, at age 69.

She was baptized upon confession of faith on May 20, 1940, at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church near Goessel, Kan., by Peter H. Unruh. She was married to Gerhard Peters on Sept. 1, 1943, at the Alexanderwohl Church by Arnold Funk.

She did some nursing at Harrisburg (Pa.) State Hospital where her husband served in Civilian Public Service. After CPS days, they entered the gospel ministry in 1948. She was an assistant in the ministry. They served at Gotebo, Okla., from 1948-53, at Burns, Kan., from 1953-59, at Bourbon, Ind., from 1959-63, at Freeman, S. D., from 1963-69, and at Pawnee Rock, Kan., from 1969-84. While at Bourbon, Ind., she took some night classes at Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminaries, Elkhart, Ind., while her husband was a student there.

From 1959-1974 she gave great care and love to her son, who was a total invalid. She was a faithful wife and mother. She showed much bravery in facing the daily stresses and conflicts in life. She loved to play with her grandchildren. Her hobbies were embroidery, quilting and visiting the elderly in the church and community.

Her survivors include her husband; four children, Charmaine Fast, Carolyn and her husband Tom Kirkpatrick, Roberta Mabee and Robert and wife Suzanne Peters; seven grandchildren, three brothers and two sisters.

She was preceded in death by a son, Paul, one brother and three sisters.
