Ely R. Fretz, 85, died Nov. 1, 1974. He was the son of the late Rev. Allen M. and Anna Rittenhouse Fretz, and was born in Bedminster Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
A graduate of Souderton High School in 1904 and of Perkiomen Seminary in 1905, he taught school for four years, and then worked his way through the West. He farmed for 46 years at Pleasant Valley, Pennsylvania. following retirement in 1958, he moved to Bedminster, Pa. and in December 1972 he moved to the Mennonite Home for the aged, Frederick, Pa.
He was a life-long member of Deep Run Mennonite Church West, Bedminster, where he was a Sunday school teacher for more than 50 years.
He was a long-time director of the former Merchants Bank at Quakertown, Pa., and was active for many years in the Quakertown Rotary Club and in the Richland Grange.
Lilly (Frey) Fretz, his wife, preceded him in death as did also two brothers, Allen and Jacob, and a sister, Viola. He is survived by a son, O. Kenneth Fretz, Haddonfield, N. J.; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Agnes Detweiler, Frederick; and a brother, Osmund R. Fretz of Sellersville.
Funeral services were held on Nov. 5, 1974 at the Deep Run Mennonite Church West with interment in the church cemetery.
