AMY KRISTINE FRETZ

Amy Kristine Fretz was born Feb. 11, 1982, at Hutchinson, Kan., to Thomas Howard and Rebecca Jo Schrag Fretz. She died of complications from pneumonia Feb. 20, 1989, in Overland Park. In her short life she spent many days in doctors' offices and hospitals. She was a student at Katherine Carpenter School.

She had severe handicaps, but she taught those around her compassion for the disabled, that humanity extends beyond verbal debates, that love given can be returned to the giver, and the value of friends and family. Throughout her brief life, her family grew closer and was nurtured by the caring of church members and friends.

Music in many forms delighted and soothed her. She was affectionately nicknamed "Pooh."

She was surrounded by a loving family, including her parents; a brother, Mark; paternal grandparents, J. Winfield and Marguerite Geiger Fretz of North Newton; maternal grandparents, John O. and Esther Ratzlaff Schrag of North Newton; uncles, aunts and cousins.
