JOHN P. KLASSEN

John Peter Klassen of Winnipeg passed away suddenly of a heart attack at the Concordia Hospital in Winnipeg on May 21. He was born in Georgestal, southern Russia on February 2,1902 to Peterr and Anna (Rempel) Klassen and grew up in the Fuerstenland. At age 17 he accepted the Lord and was baptized into the Mennonite Brethren church. On August 19, 1928 he married Mrs. Elizabeth Neufeld (Reimer) and accepted into his family her three children from her previous marriage, Margaret, Abe and Jake. Two sons, John and Peter, and a daughter, Lillian were born to this union. Peter predeceased him in infancy. The family came to Canada in March, 1930 and farmed at Alexander, in Manitoba for over 30 years. His first wife Elizabeth predeceased him in 1973. In 1975 he married Gertrude Harder. He is survived by his wife Gertrude; his children: Margaret and Alfred Kroeker of Winnipeg; Abe and Helen Klassen of Yarrow, B.C., Jake and Nettie Klassen of Brandon, Man.; John and Henrietta Klassen of Houston, Texas; Lillian and Henry Regehr of Toronto; 24 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and two sisters.
