WILLIAM ISAAK NEUFELD

William Isaak Neufeld died Aug. 22 at age 97. He was born Nov. 10, 1908 in Waldheim, Russia to Isaak and Anna Neufeld. He attended the village school until the revolution. His schooling was interrupted again and again as his parents moved from place to place. William's family immigrated to Canada in 1926. At 7, William made a commitment to Jesus at an evangelistic meeting in Winnipeg, he recommitted his life to God and was baptized. He married Hildegard Neufeld in 1941. William became a teacher and taught at Mennonite Educational Institute, Clearbrook, B.C., for 13 years. In 1959, he was ordained as a minister and became pastor of South Abbotsford (B.C.) MB Church. In 1966, he moved back to Winnipeg and pastored at North Kildonan MB Church. After retirement at age 70, he kept busy preaching, travelling, and writing books. He enjoyed visits from his children, grandchildren, and (Carol), Stuart (Betsy), great-grandchildren. Predeceased by Hildegard; 1 great-grandson; he is mourned by children Ingrid, Karin (Herb Suderman), Wili (Jack Bass), and Gerald (Ellen); 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren.
