PETER KOOP
Peter Koop died May 7. He was born Oct. 12,1925 in Rueckenau, Molotschna to Johann and Katharina Koop. In 1941, Peter went to Rostov as a cattle herder. Upon his return to Rueckenau, he was surprised to find the village already occupied by the Germans. In 1944, Peter was conscripted into the German army. Towards the end of the war, he was taken prisoner by the Russians but managed to escape one night while walking to a train station. He made his way to Berlin where he met other refugees, including his future wife Anna Janzen. They were married Sept. 22, 1946 and sailed to Paraguay.
