In 1929, the family fled from Russia to Germany where they lived in a refugee camp. From there, they moved to Paraguay. The pioneer years were difficult, but they were grateful to live in peace again. Tina worked as a domestic in Casado where she met and married Kornelius Braun. The couple moved to Brazil an then immigrated to Vancouver in 1965, joining the First United Mennonite Church.
