&bull;  Relatives from Newton attended funeral services at the First Mennonite Church in McPherson on Friday afternoon, Oct. 25, for Sam J. Schroeder, 71, who died Oct. 23 at McPherson Memorial Hospital.  He was a retired farmer and service station manager.  His wife, the former Susie Janzen, survives, and Mrs. Alice Pankratz and Mrs. Edna Nickel, both of Newton, are among seven surviving sisters.  Rev. Ernest Porzelius, the pastor, and Rev. Roland Goering of Hillsboro officiated at the funeral.
