Esther Mae Roth was born in Groveland Township, Illinois, on April 3, 1896, a daughter of Amos and Barbara (Augsburger) Roth, Sr.  She died at Restmor Nursing Home in Morton, Ill. on Feb. 4, 1974, at the age of 77, after a short illness for which she had been hospitalized for five weeks earlier.
 
In her youth, Esther joined the Pleasant Grove Mennonite Church, where her grandfather, Daniel Roth, was a minister.  Later this church was moved to Morton and the name changed to First Mennonite Church.  Esther served faithfully in her home church all her life in her quiet way.  At her death, she was president of the local Women's Missionary and service Commission, an office she had also held numerous times in the past.
 
Esther devoted considerable years of her life in caring for others through working as a practical nurse in hospitals and also sometimes in private homes in the community.
 
She leaves to cherish her memory a sister, Mrs. Lydia Albrecht, and a brother, Amos D. Roth, both of Morton, and nine nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by two brothers, John of Morton, and Alvin, formerly of Morton but later of Eureka, Ill.
 
Services were held at First Mennonite Church, Morton, on Feb. 7, conducted by Rev. Milo Kauffman and assisted at the graveside by Rev. Willard Liechty of Wayland, Iowa.

ESTHER MAE ROTH
