• Funeral services for Walter P. Epp, 78 [''sic'' 68], of Wichita were to be held Wednesday afternoon at Downing East Mortuary in that city followed by burial at the Mennonite cemetery near Elbing. His death Sunday morning in Osteopathic Hospital, Wichita, was attributed to a heart attack. Mr. Epp was a retired Boeing employee and a native of the Elbing community. Surviving are his widow; one daughter, Mrs. Fred Schmidt of Wichita; one granddaughter; five sisters, Mrs. Marie Ratzlaff of Newton, Mrs. Justina Bergen and Mrs. Anna Kroeker of Reedley, Calif., Mrs. Anna Willms and Mrs. Peter Thiessen of Inman; and a brother, Elvin of Long Beach, Calif.

Walter Pete Epp was born May 4, 1904 to Peter and Anna Kroeker Epp of Inman, Kan. Since his mother was unable to care for him, he was taken into the home of a cousin of his father, Henry Epp and wife Margaret Wiens Epp. He became a source of joy and inspiration in his new home. Here he received the love and care of a Christian home.

In 1913 he with the family moved to a farm near Minneola, Kan. He had many happy memories of the years in western Kansas. In an evangelical crusade, he accepted Christ as his personal Saviour. His childhood Sunday school classes were an inspiration for later years. The family later moved to Elbing, Kan.

On May 28, 1935, he married Jean Gladfelter of Whitewater, Kan.

The Lord gave him a brilliant and alert mind. He was sincere, honest and concerned for people, doing charitable work when able.

After a brief illness, he passed away on July 9, 1972 at the age of 68.

Surviving are his wife jean, daughter Carol Ann Smith and one granddaughter, all of Wichita; one foster sister Marie Epp Ratzlaff of Newton, Kan. His parents, one foster sister, Margaret Epp Regier, and one foster brother, Henry Epp, preceded him in death. Other survivors are four sisters: Justina Bergen, Reedley, Calif.; Anna Kroeker, Fresno, Calif.; Lizzie Willems and Katherine Tieszen, both of Inman; and one brother Alvin Epp, Long Beach, Calif.

Funeral services were held at Downing East Mortuary Chapel in Wichita on July 12, 1972 with Rev. Cletus C. Cary officiating. Burial was at the Zion Mennonite Cemetery at Elbing.
