John B. Wiebe was born Oct. 27, 1907 to John E. and Katie Wiebe and departed this life Feb. 1, 1972. His childhood years were spent in his parental home about six and one-half miles southeast of Newton, Kan.

In his youth he accepted Christ as his Saviour and was baptized by Elder J. E. Entz. He joined the First Mennonite Church of Newton. At the age of 19 his mother passed away.

In 1955 he helped organize and build the Newton Bible Church. He found much joy in serving the Lord in this work. He also served as deacon from its beginning until the present time. His leadership and keen discernment in spiritual matters coupled with love and kindness was much appreciated.

On March 28, 1934 he married Bertha Hiebert. For nearly 38 years they shared joys and sorrows. The home was blessed with three children: Eileen, Ruth and John. The five grandchildren were also a constant source of joy.

The Lord gave John a cheerful disposition and a loving heart. He was a faithful and devoted husband and father. No sacrifice was too large concerning the welfare of his family, but it was the little things that father did which made our home a bit of heaven on earth.

His life was an abundant and fruitful one. Whether he was doing house visitation, working in the field, or distributing Gideon Bibles, he was always cheerful. His delight was in the Lord.

Surviving are his wife, Bertha; two daughters, Mrs. Virgil (Eileen) Unruh and Mrs. Fred (Ruth) Langenegger, both of Newton; a son, John, of Newton; five grandchildren; his father, John E. Wiebe; and one sister, Katie Wiebe, both of Newton; and one brother, Herman, of Logan, Utah.
