— Jacob B. Schmidt, 73, lifelong resident of the Goessel community, died Sept. 11 at the Bethesda Hospital. The funeral was conducted Tuesday forenoon at the Alexanderwohl Church, with Rev. Ronald Krehbiel in charge. Mr. Schmidt was born in Marion County and farmed in the Goessel area most of his life. He leaves his widow, the former Martha Goertzen, of the home on Route 2, Newton; a son, Marvin, of Newton; two daughters, Mrs. Olin Unruh of rural Hillsboro and Ella of Wichita; five grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. D. L. Schmidt of Goessel.
