Goshen, Ind. — A 14-year-old Amish schoolgirl was killed and her companion seriously injured Sept. 10 when the bicycle they were riding crashed into the side of a moving semi-tractor on US-6 west of Nappanee.

Vonda Sue Miller, daughter of Glen J. and Lydia Miller, died instantly. Martha L. Helmuth, 13, suffered fractures of the leg and elbow and internal injuries.

The Helmuth girl reportedly was riding on the handlebars of the Miller girl’s bicycle as they rode onto the busy highway from a side road and hit the truck. They were en route home from the Weldy School, an Amish parochial school.

Indiana Schoolgirl Killed When Bicycle Runs Into Truck

Goshen, Ind. — A 14-year-old Amish schoolgirl was killed and her companion seriously injured Sept. 10 when the bicycle they were riding crashed into the side of a moving semi-tractor on US-6 west of Nappanee.

Vonda Sue Miller, daughter of Glen J. and Lydia Miller, died instantly. Martha L. Helmuth, 13, suffered fractures of the leg and elbow and internal injuries.
