Noted Geographer Dies at Age 58

Reedley, Calif. — Word was received by family members here that Dr. Harold J. Wiens, internationally known geographer of the Far East and Pacific Islands, died recently at Eugene, Ore. at the age of 58.

The son of M.B. missionaries, Rev. and Mrs. Frank J. Wiens, he was born in China and attended school in Reedley when the family lived there. He taught at Yale University for 19 years, and later at other universities in the United States. He was also a Fulbright professor at several universities in the Far Eastern area.

Survivors include his widow and four children; his step-mother, Mrs. Agnes Wiens of Reedley; two brothers, Robert of Walnut Creek, Calif. and Roland, missionary to Japan; and two sisters, Mrs. Adina Robinson of Tiburon, Calif. and Mrs. Linda Gerbrandt of Norman, Okla.
