HANS PENNER
Hans Penner died Sept. 20. He was born Nov. 4, 1925 in Silberfeld, Siberia, Russia to Jacob and Katharina Penner. They immigrated to Germany in 1929, then to Paraguay in 1930, settling in Gnadenheim, Fernheim. He accepted Christ. In 1939 the family moved to the Paraguay River where they worshipped with one other Mennonite family. In 1942 he was baptized by Heinrich B. Friesen. The family returned to Fernheim in 1944. Hans became a member of Lichtfelde MB Church. He learned blacksmithing. Hans married Sara Unger Nov. 27, 1948. They moved to Landskrone, Fernheim, then in 1952 to Boquerao, Brazil in 1952. He operated a dairy farm. They moved to Winnipeg December 1963, then to Vancouver, where they joined Vancouver MB Church, then Culloden MB Church. In 1978 they moved to Abbotsford. He retired from construction in 1983. Sara died Feb. 18, 1990. He married Sara Tissen of Germany July 4, 1992. They travelled in their motor home and fished at Barnes Lake. He entered Menno Hospital June 2002. Predeceased by first wife Sara, he is mourned by Sara, daughters Edith Wiens and Marlene Schroeder; sons Sieg, Vern, Wally, Alfred, Wilf, Erhard, Carl, Rick; 14 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters; 2 brothers; 3 step-brothers; 3 step-sisters . The funeral was Sept. 25 in Clearbrook MB Church.
