— Arthur J. Richert, 78, a native of Newton and resident here from 1953 to 1963, died Feb. 5 at his home in Upland, Calif. He and Mrs. Richert had returned to Upland only about two weeks earlier after spending more than a month here, during which he underwent surgery at Bethel Deaconess Hospital. The body is being returned here, and the funeral is announced for 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Bethel College Church with Dr. Lloyd Ramseyer officiating. The Richerts resided in the Los Angeles area for many years where he was employed as a printer and Linotype operator. After they moved to Newton in 1953 he served for six years as the first business manager and treasurer of the General Conference central offices here. Later he also worked with Church Extension Services, Inc. of the conference. He was a member of the First Mennonite Church of Upland. Survivors include his widow, the former Helen A. Regier; a son, Rev. Irvin E. Richert of Quakertown, Pa.; one sister, Mrs. Helen Harder of Larned; one brother, John, of Culver City, Calif.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Ronald Ewert of North Newton is a grandson. | |||
