MARY KROEKER

Mary Kroeker died Apr. 21. She was born to Franz and Eve Ewert Aug. 23, 1907 in Winnipeg. The family moved to Pambrun, Sask. when she was 4, and to Hepburn, Sask. when she was 11. She quit school after grade 8 to work on the farm. At 21 she accepted the Lord; she was baptized and joined Brotherfield (Sask.) MB Church. She sang in the choir. In 1933 she married John Kroeker. They farmed in Brotherfield. In 1947 they moved to Abbotsford, B.C. buying a fruit farm. Mary looked after the farm. They were charter members of McCallum Road MB Church (now Central Heights). She was the oldest surviving charter member before her death. In 1962 they sold the farm and moved to a new home. In 1979 they moved to a retirement home in Awana Housing Society. John died in 1981. Mary enjoyed entertaining, knitting, crocheting, playing piano and shopping. In November 1997 she suffered a stroke. She moved to several different care facilities. Predeceased by John and 9 siblings, she is mourned by daughter Ruby Massier; sons Jerry and Edgar; 9 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 1 sister; 1 brother. The funeral was Apr. 24 in Central Heights Church, with Christopher Douglas ministering.
