MRS. ELISABETH PENNER
Elisabeth Schmidt Penner, daughter of Heinrich A. and Anna Unruh Schmidt, was born May 14, 1872, in Gnadentahl, South Russia and departed this life March 26, 1954, at the age of 81 years 10 months and 12 days, at the Bethel Home for Aged at Newton Kansas where she and her husband had resided the past 20 months.
She was the second youngest in a family of eleven children, all of whom preceded her in death. At the age of two years she came to Kansas with her parents and they made their home near Goessel where she spent her earlier years.
She was baptized on profession of her faith by Rev. Jacob Buller and united with the Alexanderwohl church May 26, 1890.
At the age of 19 she was united in marriage to Isaac Penner and they were privileged to spend over 62 years together. Of these years over 43 were spent in Kansas.
She is survived by her husband and seven children, two daughters and five sons: Selma, Mrs. Albert Regier of Burrton, Anna, Mrs. B. B. Schmidt of Goessel, Daniel D. and Marcus M. of Halstead, Samuel S. of Sedgwick, Henry J. of Newton and Eldon L. of Chanute
She also leaves 19 grandchildren, four others having preceded her in death, and 19 great-grandchildren.
In tribute to wife and mother no words can better express her qualities than those recorded in portions of Proverbs 31: "Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.
"She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.
"She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not of the bread of idleness.
"Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.”
