Hopedale, Ill. Farmer Pinned Under Tractor
Delavan, Ill. — Funeral services were held at the Hopedale Mennonite Church Nov. 9 for Thomas Swartzendruber, 58, well-known area farmer who died when pinned under a tractor at his farm.
The tragedy was discovered by Melvin Nafziger while delivering gas to the farm. He found Mr. Swartzendruber’s lifeless body under the over-turned tractor, about a half mile from the house.
Mr. Swartzendruber was a son of the late Shem and Nancy (Marner) Swartzendurber of Wayland, Iowa. He is survived by his wife, the former Elsie Mast; one daughter and two sons, of whom Lynn Swartzendruber is a student at Goshen college; two grandchildren; six brothers and two sisters.
