George R. Friesen, son of Jacob T. and Elizabeth Rempel Friesen, was born at Rosenort, Manitoba on Sept. 2, 1877, and passed away Nov. 16, 1964, at the age of 87 years, two months, and 16 days. | |||
He grew to young manhood at Rosenort and received his education there. In 1900 he came to North Dakota, working at various places. | |||
On Dec. 3, 1902, he was united in marriage to Margaret Toevs at Langdon, N. D. They made their home in the Langdon vicinity, where he was engaged in farming until he retired in 1950. | |||
His companion passed away Sept. 13, 1937. Since then he had made his home with his son and daughter-in-law, John and Barbara Friesen. | |||
He was converted and baptized, and united with the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite in 1922, remaining faithful to the end. | |||
Father was in ill health the last six months, during which he spent eight weeks in the hospital. He often mentioned the Lord being his Shepherd and he had a great concern for his children and grandchildren's spiritual welfare. | |||
He leaves to mourn his departure five sons and one daughter, George and Abe of Grafton, N. D., Jacob of Barron, Wis., Bernhard of Wauseon, Ohio, John of Langdon, and Margaret, Mrs. Frank Goossen, of Ste. Anne, Manitoba; one brother, John R. Friesen of Swalwell, Alberta; 20 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, besides four great- grandchildren, besides nieces,nephews, and many friends. | |||
His wife, one son, two grandchildren, one brother, and three sisters preceded him in death. | |||
Funeral services were held in the Bethel Mennonite Church on Nov. 20, with Min. John Dreck opening the service with remarks and prayer. Min. Dave Penner brought the message, speaking from John 11:20, Eccl. 12:56, and Job 14.14. Interment was made in the North Unity Cemetery, with Min. John Isaac in charge. — The Family. | |||
