Well-Known Farmer Dies at Peoria, Ill.

Metamora, Ill. — John J. Schertz, 39, prominent farmer of the Roanoke community, died Sept. 24 at Methodist Hospital in Peoria where he had been a patient for seven days.

Born in Roanoke Township, the son of John W. and Laura E. Schertz, he was widely known as a breeder of Angus cattle.

Surviving are his wife, the former Ruth Ann Hartzler of Flanagan, and a daughter and son of the home, two brothers and one sister.

Funeral services were held Friday forenoon at the Metamora Mennonite Church, with Rev. Roy Bucher officiating.
