Kennedy Baby Dies After Thirty-Nine Hours of Life
The world grieved with the John F. Kennedy family when it became known Friday that their newborn son, tiny Patrick Bouvier Kennedy, had died after only 39 hours and 12 minutes of life.
Born five and one-half weeks prematurely by Caesarean operation, the child was afflicted with a breathing difficulty from the start.
Baptismal rites were performed shortly after birth by Father John Scahill, Catholic chaplain at Otis Air Force Base.
Private funeral services were held Saturday in Boston, conducted by Archbishop Richard Cardinal Cushing, a close friend of the Kennedys.
Among the expressions of sympathy that poured in from around the world was one from Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev.
