ERVIN DYCK
Ervin Dyck was born April 28, 1904 in McPherson County, Kansas, the oldest son of Peter R. and Maria Schmidt Dyck. He reached the age of 57 years, 11 months.
When he was about two years old the family homesteaded a farm near Syracuse, Kansas where they remained for ten years and where he started his education.
After moving back to the Goessel area, his elementary education was continued in the rural schools in Marion County and later in the Walton school. He graduated from the Hillsboro Preparatory School in 1923. The next two years were spent at the Wichita Business College.
He was baptized by Rev. Peter H. Richert on May 15, 1921 and became a member of the Tabor Mennonite Church of which he was a faithful member until the end.
He was married to Agnes Dirksen on May 14, 1929. Three children were born to this union, Phyllis DeLaine, Vernon Lee and Cecil Wayne, who passed away a few hours after birth. After 15 years of marriage, death visited their home when Agnes was taken to her reward on Sept. 9, 1944.
On March 30, 1946 he was married to Olga Schmidt. To this union three children were born, Galen, Sharole and Kristie.
Ervin set an example to his family that will not soon be forgotten. He practiced the art of living unselfishly, often administering to the ill, the bereaved and the lonely. He served as church usher for many years and in numerous other committees.
The illness that struck him just a year ago was the most difficult to bear because it left him unable to do as much for his family and outsiders as he longed to do.
His father and mother and two brothers, Arthur and Elmer, went to their reward before him. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife Olga; his children; one son-in-law, Alfred Nickle [sic Nickel] ; four grandchildren, Bradley, Jonene, Ronald, and Lori; five sisters, Clara, Mrs. P. A. Unruh, Hulda, Mrs. Armand Frey, Linda, Mrs. Otto Richert, Martha, Mrs. Arnold Voth and Luella, Mrs. Harold Lowe; and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Dorothy Siemens.
