Second Fire Tragdy At Warroad, Minn.
Warroad, Minn. — A tragic fire on Jan. 4 claimed the lives of eight-year-old Lucille Pearson and her sister, Lynda, 2. They were the oldest and youngest children of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Pearson.
The other two children in the family, six-year-old Kathy and four-year-old Gene, were visiting at the home of Mrs. Pearson's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Sutliff, at the time of the fire.
The blaze was discovered about 11:30 p.m. Mr. Pearson climbed the TV antenna in a futile effort to reach the oldest daughter, who was sleeping upstairs. The bodies were found at 3 a.m. and 9 a.m.
It was the second tragedy to strike this community in less than a year. Margaret Oshie perished when the Oshie home burned to the ground in a night fire. Her brother is still in the hospital suffering from burns sustained before he escaped the blaze.
