DAVID JAKOB WIEBE

David Jakob Wiebe was born March 20, 1909 in Alexandrodar, Russia, to Jakob and Agnes (nee Goerz) Wiebe and passed away on October 10, 1975 at Abbotsford, B.C. He received his formal education in Russia. In 1925 the Wiebe family moved to Canada, to Gnadenthal, Manitoba, first and two years later to Manitou. After his conversion he was baptized in 1928 and joined the Manitou Mennonite Brethren Church.

On October 9, 1930 he was married to Justina Konrad, a marriage blessed with two sons and three daughters. They farmed for 15 years at Manitou and Springstein, and then in 1946 moved to Sumas-Matsqui, B.C., farming there another 20 years. Actively interested in civic and community affairs, he participated in many projects. He served actively in the churches they attended, most recently for nine years as secretary treasurer of the Clearbrook MB Church. He was office manager of the Abbotsford Growers Cooperative, where he worked for 10 years after leaving farming.

He leaves to mourn his wife Justina; two sons, Abe and Walter, and three daughters, Agnes (Mrs. Walter) Dueck, Mary (Mrs. Peter) Derksen, and Susan, all of B.C.; 17 grandchildren and two great grandsons, five brothers and one sister.
