PETER F. FRIESEN
Peter F. Friesen was born on Jan. 25, 1887, near Burrton, Kan. There he grew to manhood, attending the local district school and working on the family farm. While still a young man, he was baptized upon his confession of faith in Jesus Christ and admitted in the Mennonite Brethren church.
He married Lizzie Adrian on May 21, 1908. The couple established a farm and home near Burrton. This home was blessed with two sons and seven daughters, all of whom are living.
In 1948, after the children were grown up, Mrs. Friesen died. The children were pleased that he found someone to comfort him in his time of need when on December 16, 1948 he was united in marriage with Mrs. Velma Shultz. They made their home on a farm near Lebo, Kan., where he suffered a heart attack on the morning of Oct. 19, and having passed away having attained the age of 73 years, eight months, and 24 days.
He lived simply with a concern for the fundamental things of life and an abiding faith in his family and friends. The warmth of his friendship and the cheerfulness of his disposition, even in the face of hardship and trial, are a treasure in which all who knew him can share.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his widow, Velma, of the home; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Eldo and AnnaMae of Hutchinson, Richard Levi and Renetta of Almogordo [sic Alamogordo], N. M.; seven daughters and seven sons-in-law, Grace and Matt Tatro of Moundridge, Martha and Edwin Martins of Wichita, Edna and George Plett of Inman, Lillie and George Regehr of Valley Center, Lovander [sic Lavender] Mae and Bernie Hiebert of Newton, Lovana Lou and Olin Hiebert of Wichita, and Marcie and Ronald Woelk of Hutchinson; six foster children, Virgil and Mary Shultz of Waverly, Norma and Wayne Lewis of Ottawa, and Irmadene and Merle Newkirk of Burlington; 27 grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, two brothers, three sisters, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Oct. 22, at 9 a.m. at Burlington, Kan., and at 3 p.m. at the Mennonite Brethren church in Buhler. Interment was in the Buhler municipal cemetery.
