PETER BARTEL

Peter Bartel, son of Leonhard and Agnetha Funk Bartel, was born on Dec. 17, 1881, near Hillsboro, Kansas. Here he spent his childhood years and received his formal education.

On May 22, 1899 he was baptized by Elder Whilhelm [sic] J. Ewert upon his confession of faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and admitted as a member of the Brudertal Mennonite Church.

On May 22, 1899 he was bap- [sic] in holy matrimony to Anna Schmidt. On March 6, 1909, he transferred his church membership to the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church where he remained a faithful member until his death.

We will remember father as a man of robust health for whom no work was too menial or difficult. He chose for his life work the occupations of farming and carpentry, both of which he pursued with vigor and enthusiasm. Although he often found it difficult to give verbal testimony of his faith in public, the quality of his work speaks eloquently as to his strength of character.

We will remember father as a generous man. He gave willingly of his time and resources to the work of the church. He served as a trustee at the time of the first remodeling of our church. When asked to help plan for the expansion of the Home for the Aged he accepted the assignment gladly.

On Sept. 9, 1956, mother passed to her heavenly reward. Father has now left us to join our mother in their eternal reward. We, their children, praise God for the assurance of eternal life in which we feel confident father and mother are now taking part.

Father departed this life on Jan. 14, 1962, at the Bethel Hospital, having attained the age of 80 years and 28 days. He is survived by a brother, Heinrich, as well as his ten children: Adolf, Paul, Herbert, Selma (Mrs. Jona Reimer), Leonhard, Roland, Peter, Otto, Martha (Mrs. Ralph Peters), and Linda (Mrs. Milton Goertzen). He is also survived by 33 grandchildren, a great-grandson, and many other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Alexanderwohl Church on Jan. 18 at 2 p. m. with Rev. Aaron Epp officiating. — The Family.
