ABRAM W. TOEWS

Abram W. Toews, son of Wilhelm and Katharina (Hiebert) Toews, was born on April 6, 1901 in the Horndean, Man. area. On October 7, 1924 he was united in marriage with Annie Groening. Last fall, with all their children in attendance, they celebrated their golden anniversary.

During his earlier years he farmed in Manitoba. For some 40 years he suffered from a crippling illness. For this reason he retired in 1956 and moved to Steinbach.

It was during his first year of married life, in January, 1925, that he came to know Jesus as his personal Saviour. He was baptized that same year and received into the Mennonite Brethren Church. The Lord was a constant source of strength to him. He found opportunities for serving other, when he visited people he would comfort and encourage them in song.

On January 14 his course was finished and the Lord called him home. He is survived by his wife Annie and nine children: Richard, Kenneth, (Mrs.) Grace Penner, (Mrs.) Inez Beitz, (Mrs.) Evelyne Rempel and families of Winnipeg, Herbert, Earl and families of Calgary, (Mrs.) Dora Nutt and family of Whitehorse, Yukon and Lome of Steinbach; also many grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

The funeral was conducted January 18 in the Steinbach Mennonite Brethren Church by Rev. Forsberg and Rev. C. Rempel.
