ESTHER MAE YODER

Esther Mae Yoder, daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth (Martin) Lehman, was born in Columbiana County, Ohio on August 29, 1886, and went to her eternal home Dec. 12, 1958, aged 72 years, three months and 13 days.

She accepted Christ in her youth and united with the Mennonite Church, remaining faithful until death. At her death she was a member of the Leetonia Mennonite Church, of which her husband was pastor.

After having taught in the local schools for a few years, she went to college, graduating from Goshen College at Goshen, Ind. in 1914. Later she taught History and English at Hesston college, Hesston, Kansas.

On Oct. 24,1915,she was married to Stephen A. Yoder. to this union were born three children: Lucille (Mrs. Arthur Detrow) of Leetonia, Ohio; R. Clifford of Broomfield, Colo.; and J. Harold of Goshen, Ind. following their marriage they lived in Kansas until moving to Ohio. Surviving are her husband, the three children, six grandchildren and four brothers: M. C. Lehman of Elkhart, Ind.; D. E. Lehman of Youngstown, Ohio; Ivan J. Lehman and Clayton, both of Columbiana.

She was a faithful wife and companion to her pastor husband, sharing with him the responsibilities and duties their position brought. She was active in the WMSA, the Sunday school and church. As a gifted teacher she willingly gave her services to the Sunday school, and to whatever she was asked to do. Her passing leaves a vacancy felt by many.

Funeral services were held at the Leetonia Church on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 14, in charge of John P. Oyer, assisted by David Steiner and Paul Yoder. Burial was made in the Midway cemetery.
