JOHN G. REDEKOPP

John G. Redekopp, son of George and Anna Redekopp, and beloved husband of Maria Redekopp, was born in Schoenberg, Russia, on August 17, 1902. At the age of 11, he moved along with his family from Russia to Canada, settling on a farm in the Queen Centre district near Hodgeville, Sask.

On November 13, 1924 he married Maria Sapinsky and they settled on a farm in the Kelstern district, where they farmed until 1966 when they moved to Herbert for retirement. Their marriage was blessed with seven children.

At an early age he accepted Christ as his Saviour and on July 13, 1919 he was baptized upon confession of his faith and accepted into the Elim Mennonite Brethren Church. He loved to serve the Lord and was active over the years as a music director, Sunday school teacher, and as a leader of the Kelstern Mennonite Brethren Church for 12 years. After retirement he still remained active in the church at Herbert, as well as serving on several committees of our conference.

He passed away December 14 at his home, and funeral services were held in the Mennonite Brethren Church, Herbert on December 17. Rev. Nick Janz and Rev. Jacob Paul officiated.

He leaves to mourn his wife Maria; four sons: Adolph and Hilda of Boissevain, Man. George of Herbert, Alvin and Irene of Yorkton, Sask., Clarence and Irene of Winnipeg; three daughters: Caroline and Henry Klassen of Moose Jaw, Dorothy and John Wiens of Clearbrook, Evilene and Leonard Willems of Saskatoon; two brothers; and three sisters.
