Mrs. Nora (Moyer) Swartz was born in Chalfont, Pa. June 25, 1901, a daughter of the late Levi S. and Anna Detweiler Moyer. | |||
Mrs. Swartz died at her home in Schwenksville early Thursday morning, Sept. 20, after a lingering illness of five years. She was the wife of Rev. Freeman H. Swartz, pastor of the Eden Mennonite church. | |||
She and Rev. Swartz were married in the Germantown Meetinghouse Aug. 9, 1944, by Rev. Howard T. Landis assisted by Rev. Russel Mast, pastor of the Deep Run congregation. For a time they resided in Norristown, moving to Schwenksville four years ago. Rev. Swartz is completing 35 years of pastorage duties with the Eden congregation. | |||
On Aug. 9, Rev. and Mrs. Swartz celebrated their 12th wedding anniversary. For the anniversary dinner she was carried downstairs from her sickbed by several men of the congregation, who later also served as her pallbearers. Her cheerfulness was a blessing to all who visited her and many went away uplifted who came to cheer her. She remarked to her brother, "I have not regretted a single hour I spent on my back." | |||
Mrs. Swartz, in addition to teaching the Missionary Class, served as secretary of the Eden Ladies Organization. She was a former treasurer of the ladies organization of the conference. | |||

Between 500 and 600 persons attended the viewing in Eden Mennonite Church Sunday afternoon and evening from 4 to 9 o'clock. Devotional services were conducted by Rev. Wilmer Shelly of Frederick after the viewing. Members of the Ladies Missionary Class of Eden church, which she taught, and of the Men's Class kept all-night vigil form 9 o'clock until 12 noon Monday in three-hour shifts. | |||
Dr. Paul Yount, Lederach, led the family in Scripture reading and prayer before the procession started for the Deep Run Mennonite Meetinghouse, Bedminster, Pa. where both the deceased and her husband attended during their childhood and youth. | |||
Pall bearers were Ralph Brown, Joseph Budd, Claude Kratz, Curtis Moyer, Winfred Wedel, a nephew of the deceased, and Wilmer Swartz, nephew of Rev. Swartz. | |||
Rev. Arthur S. Rosenberger, pastor of West Swamp Church, officiated. The Scripture was read by Rev. Howard T. Landes, Bowmansville, and Rev. Kranz of Christ home led in prayer. The sermon was given by Rev. Howard G. Nyce of Pretty Prairie, Kans. the latter is a former member of Eden congregation and a personal friend of the Swartz family. Mrs. Swartz had expressed a wish that Bro. Nyce preach. | |||
A group of 15 ministers of the conference rendered a selection, "O Power of Love All Else Transcending." | |||
Interment was in the cemetery adjoining the meetinghouse. | |||

SERVICES HELD AT BEDMINSTER, PA. FOR WIFE OF PASTOR
Bedminster, Pa. — Funeral services for Mrs. Nora M. Swartz, wife of Rev. Freeman H. Swartz of Schwenksville, were conducted at the Deep Run Mennonite Church near here Monday, Sept 24. Burial was made in the adjoining cemetery.
Mrs. Swartz was born June 25, 1901, and died on Sept. 20, 1956. Rev. Swartz has been pastor of the Eden Mennonite Church at Schwenksville for a number of years.
