GEORGE MATTHIES
George Mattthies was born Sept. 17, 1900 in Olgenau, S. Russia to Gerhard and Margareta Matthies (nee Martens). In 1925 he came to Canada settling first in Manitou, Man. Three years later he came to Coaldale, and in 1942 purchased his own farm, where he lived until his passing. It was here that he accepted the Lord Jesus as his personal Saviour in 1944 and upon confession of faith was baptized and joined the M. B. Church. On Feb. 11, 1945 he married Tina Goerzen. This union was blessed with five children of whom one daughter predeceased him in infancy. He found much joy in his family and church life. During his illness he was still a real encouragement and witness to his family and friends. The Lord has taken him home. Yet though we sorrow, we have a living hope to see our loved one again in Glory.
He leaves to mourn his wife, two sons, two daughters, two grandchildren, as well as relatives and friends. Funeral services were held in the Coaldale MB Church with Rev. D. J. Pankratz officiating.
