WALDEMAR J. FRIESEN
A resident of Hebert, Sask Waldemar J. Friesen passed away on April 24, 1972 after a brief illness. He had lived in Herbert since his retirement there in October, 1957.
He was born to Johannes and Jael Friesen in Waldemfuerst, the Kuban, southern Russia on January 14, 1901. On March 7, 1924 he was married to Maria Regier by Rev. Paul Isaak. He and his wife came to Canada in 1926 and took up residence in the vicinity of Main Centre, Sask., where they farmed for 31 years. He accepted the Lord as his Saviour and on May 24, 1931 he was baptized by Benjamin Ewert. Later he joined the Mennonite Brethren Church.
His wife Maria passed from his side on January 1, 1965. On October 9, 1965 he married Katherine Bahnmann of Swift Current. He enjoyed fairly good health until shortly before his death, passing away peacefully on April 24. He leaves to mourn his passing, his loving wife Katherine; three sons, David of Watrous, Sask., Frank of Medicine Hat, Paul of Herbert; two daughters, ,Irene (Mrs . Alvin) Toews of Abbotsford, B.C., and Ella (Mrs. Jerry) Schmidt of Saskatoon; 14 grandchildren; a sister and a brother.
Pastor Jake Pauls and Rev. Frank Peters ministered at the funeral service, conducted in the Herbert Mennonite Brethren Church on April 28.
