MRS. JACOB B. JANZ
Elizabeth Rempel was born on December 7, 1893 to Peter and Maria Hildebrand of Steinfeild, southern Russia. There she attended the village school for five years and there she also grew up. When she was 19 she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Saviour, and in the same year, 1913, was baptized together with three of her sisters and received into the Mennonite Brethren church.
On June 6, 1917 she was married to Henry Rempel. They continued to live in Steinfeld for seven further years, during which time four children were born to them.
In 1924 they left Russia for Canada, arriving in Main Centre, Sask., on September 30 of that year. After five months, however, they moved to Osborne, Manitoba, where they bought a farm and eventually lived for 32 years. Here the Lord gave them seven more children.
In 1957 they retired from the farm and moved to Winnipeg. They joined the Elmwood Mennonite Brethren Church in the city. She enjoyed the fellowship of the church very much and cultivated a very intimate relationship with the Lord. She prayed much for her children and grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Anna (Mrs. Peter) Penner, and a son, Henry. Surviving her are her husband, Henry; four daughters, Beth (Mrs. Jake) Enns, of Oakbluff, Man., Mary (Mrs. Jake) Klippenstein of Vancouver, Elaine (Mrs. Herb) Penner of Winnipeg and Sara (Mrs. Gordon) Reed of Kingston; five sons, Peter of Winnipeg, Neil of Beloit, Wisconsin, John, Bill, and Herman of Osborne; 41 grandchildren, one great grandchild; a sister, (Mrs.) Anne Dyck of Steinbach, Man., and a brother, Henry Hildebrand, of Caronport, Sask.
