Missionary J. H. Voth Died Suddenly at Tulsa, Oklahoma

HAD BEEN MENNONITE BRETHREN MISSIONARY FOR OVER THIRTY YEARS

Mountain Lake, Minn. — Funeral services were held at the Mennonite Brethren church here Sunday afternoon, August 1, for Rev. J. H. Voth, widely known minister and missionary who served in India for 34 years.

Because of an heart ailment form which Rev. Voth suffered, he and his wife found it necessary to return from India in September, 1942, but he was yet able to engage in deputation work among the churches following his return. On Sunday, July 25, he visited the congregation at Independence, Kans. On the way to his home at Tulsa, Okla., he experienced extreme exhaustion, but was sufficiently recovered on the following day to make a shopping trip into the city. Recurring heart attacks, however, set in again and he passed away quite suddenly in a Tulsa hospital at one o'clock Thursday afternoon, July 29.

After a brief funeral service in Tulsa the body of Missionary Voth was sent here, it being accompanied by Mrs. Voth, their son Hugo and daughter Elizabeth. Dr. P. r. Lange officiated at the funeral here, while Dr. H. W. Lohrentz conducted the service in Tulsa.

Missionary Voth was born at Bingham Lake, Minn., on Dec. 23, 1879, thus reached the age of 63 years. He married Maria Epp, his now sorrowing wife, of Windom, Minn. To them were born the folow9oing children: Elizabeth, Sarah, Menno, Theodore, Matilda and Hugo. After spending some years as teacher and evangelist, Rev. Voth and his wife began their first term in India in 1908, serving under the Mennonite Brethren conference. His outstanding work there will be long remembered by the missionaries as well as the native Christians.
