&#8212;  Mrs. Mathilda Schmidt, 79, widow of Otto R. Schmidt and a long-time Newton resident, died Sunday at Bethel Deaconess Hospital.  The former Mathilda Thimm, she was born near Elbing and was a lifetime resident of this area.  She was a member of the Bethel College Church.  Mr. Schmidt died in 1967.  Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Wayne Magnuson of Archer, Neb., three grandchildren, two brothers and three sisters.  funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at the Draper-Canon chapel, with Rev. Esko Loewen officiating.
