JACOB F. VOTH
Our dear husband, father, and grandfather, Jacob F. Voth, son of Henry S. and Helena Flaming Voth, was born on March 28, 1888, in Marion County, Kansas, and spent his entire life in this same community near Goessel, Kansas. Here he obtained his elementary education in the Heimbaugh School and later Bethel College. For four years he taught school, and then engaged in farming until his retirement some years ago.
He was baptized upon his confession of faith in Jesus Christ his Savior on May 30, 1909, by Elder P. H. Richert and accepted as a member of the Tabor Mennonite Church. Here he remained a faithful member throughout his life.
On April 30, 1914, he was united in holy wedlock with Susie Bergen with whom he shared life’s joys and sorrows for over 48 years. In 1939 many friends joined them in the celebration of their 25th wedding anniversary. Four children were born into this home but the first two, Albert and Ella (twins) passed away in infancy.
Our father remained active until last winter when he became ill. He served on the Goessel Rural High School Board for 12 years and was a District Secretary in the Mennonite Hilfs-Plan for 42 years. He was active in numerous other church and community affairs.
Last winter his health began to fail and surgery revealed incurable cancer. He regained some strength for a while but spent considerable time in the hospital during the past nine months. In recent weeks he became weaker and quietly passed away in the early morning hours on Sept. 15 at the home of his daughter, having reached the age of 74 years, five months, and 19 days.
A vacant chair has been left in our family circle, but we rejoice that the Lord has taken father to be with Him, relieving him of all earthly suffering and pain. We are looking forward to a reunion with him in the Great Beyond.
Surviving are his loving wife, Susie; one son, Arthur A. and wife Anna Mae of Akron, Pa.; one daughter Helen and her husband Raymond S. Schmidt of Route 2, Newton; five grandchildren, Susan and Sandra Voth, and Pauline, Gordon and Dwight Schmidt (one granddaughter, Cynthia Ann Voth preceded him in death); three brothers, Henry F., David F. and Ben F., all of Route 2, Newton; three sisters, Mrs. Caroline Reimer of North Newton, Nellie, Mrs. D. C. Reimer of Route 1, Newton, and Emma, Mrs. William Voth of Route 4, Newton.
Funeral services were conducted at the Tabor Mennonite Church at 2:00 p.m. Sept. 18. Rev. James Waltner was in charge and was assisted by Rev. H. B. Schmidt. Interment was in the Tabor Church cemetery.
