• Funeral services were held last Saturday forenoon at the Tabor Mennonite Church for Henry F. Goertz, 82, who died unexpectedly on July 19 at his home, 119 East 10th in Newton. Rev. H. R. Schmidt officiated at the services. Mr. Goertz was born Aug. 15, 1884, in Marion County, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank H. Goertz. On Oct. 25, 1910, he married Martha Schmidt, who now survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Herb (Bertha) Schroeder, Walton, and Mrs. Abe (Rachel) Ratzlaff, Monument; four sons, Arthur and Richard, Walton, Alvin, Lehigh, and Ernest, Peabody; also four sisters, 27 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

HENRY F. GOERTZ

Henry F. Goertz, son of Frank H. Goertz and Susanna Hiebert Goertz, was born Aug. 15, 1884 in the Sand Creek community in Marion County, Kan. He was baptized June 11, 1905, by Rev. Peter Balzer and was received into the membership of the Alexanderwohl Church.

He married Katherine Warkentine on May 15, 1908, and they made their home in the Hillsboro community. To this union was born a daughter, Susie, on Feb. 15, 1909. His wife, Katherine, passed away on July 2, 1909, and a few weeks later the little daughter died on Aug. 4, 1909.

He married Martha Schmidt on Oct. 25, 1910. They were married by Rev. P. H. Richert, at which time he also transferred his membership to the Tabor Mennonite Church, where he remained a faithful member until the time of his death. To this union were born two daughters and four sons: Bertha (Mrs. Herb Schroeder), Walton, Rachel (Mrs. Abe Ratzlaff), Monument, Kan., Arthur A., Walton, Alvin H., Lehigh, Ernest A., Peabody, and Richard R., Walton.

Our parents lived on a farm in Harvey County for 12 years. They later moved to a farm of their own in Marion County, where they lived for the past 14 years.

His great joy was still being able to attend worship services and Sunday School all of the time. Once, when through a misunderstanding no one came to get our parents and they did not get to Tabor, he walked to the Nazarene Church in Newton so he could attend services.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, his children, two sons-in-law, three daughters-in-law, 27 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; four sisters, one brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Schroeder and Mrs. Agnes Koehn, Bethesda Home, Goessel, Mrs. Anna Woelk, Newport, Wash., and Mrs. Eva Guhr, Newton, and a host of relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were two sisters, Gertrude and Ida; two brothers, Abe and Frank, and his parents.

He passed away suddenly at his home on Wednesday evening, July 19, 1967, at approximately 10:15, having reached the age of 82 years, 11 months, and 14 days.

Funeral services were held at the Tabor Mennonite Church on Saturday forenoon, July 22, 1967, with Rev. H. B. Schmidt officiating. — The Children.
