John Thomas, son of John and Marie Klene Burkholder, was born April 24, 1866, at Pandora, Ohio. | |||
On March 30, 1888, he was baptized upon teh [''sic''] confession of faith in Christ and received into the fellowship of the Ebenezer Mennonite church. | |||
On October 13, 1892, he was united in marriage to Aldene Neuenschwander with whom he shared the joys and sorrows of life for almost 58 years. To this union were born 10 children, seven daughters and three sons. | |||
He was a faithful and devoted husband and father and remained true to his Lord and his church until death. | |||
On June 22, 1950, he was called to his heavenly home, thus bringing his age to 84 years, one month and 28 days. He leaves to mourn his departure his faithful companion and the following children: Mrs. Cal Basinger, Valparaiso, Ind.; Quinten, Bluffton; Mrs. Peter Lehman, Columbus Grove; Mrs. Gid Garmatter, Bluffton; Mrs. Donald Voorhees, New Haven, Ind.; Mrs. Emerson Slotterback, Lima; Mrs. Reese Huber, Bluffton; Russel, Phoenix, Ariz., Mrs. Albert Diller, Bluffton; and Harold of Omaha, Nebraska. | |||
He also leaves 55 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, as well as two brothers, Sam of Bluffton and David at Lima and a host at relatives and friends. | |||
Rev. Howard Landes, pastor of the Ebenezer Mennonite church, officiated at the services. Rev. Harold Burkholder, the youngest child of the deceased, also brought a short message. Interment was at the Ebenezer Mennonite church cemetery. | |||
