Sharon, Iowa. — Eighteen-year-old Monroe Miller, second son of Deacon Henry H. Miller of the East Union Church, Kalona, drowned near here June 24 while swimming in a pond on the Ephraim Brenneman farm. | |||
The accident occured [''sic''] about 8:00 p.m., when the young man dived into the deep part of the pool and failed to come up. His two brothers were among those in swimming at the time. The body was recovered by Gaylord Brenneman and Robert Rhodes, and Brenneman applied artificial respiration, but to no avail. | |||
Bruises on his cheek and nose indicated that he may have struck some obstacle in the dive but the cause of death was drowning. | |||
Monroe was one of the nine Iowa residents who graduated from Hesston College this spring, and his death came as a great shock to this community. | |||
Funeral services were held at the East Union church at 10:00 o'clock Saturday morning, June 29. | |||

18 Year Old Youth Drowns at Wellman
MONROE MILLER, SON OF DEACON HENRY MILLER, VICTIM OF ACCIDENT
Sharon, Iowa. — Eighteen-year-old Monroe Miller, second son of Deacon Henry H. Miller of the East Union Church, Kalona, drowned near here June 24 while swimming in a pond on the Ephraim Brenneman farm.
The accident occured [sic] about 8:00 p.m., when the young man dived into the deep part of the pool and failed to come up. His two brothers were among those in swimming at the time.
