Baldwin F. Miller, son of Noah E. and Sophronia E. (Hummel) Miller, was born in Holmes county, Ohio on May 4, 1893, and passed away Sept. 9, 1952, aged 59 years, four months and two days. | |||
He lived with his parents in Ohio, Reno county, Kansas, at Jet, Okla., Tuleta, Texas, and Protection, Kansas. In his youth he accepted Christ as his Saviour and was baptized into the Mennonite church, in which he was always deeply interested. He felt a call to definite work from early Christian life. | |||
On Sept. 17, 1916, he was married to Katie Hostetler. In 1922 they moved to La Junta, Colo., where he worked on the hospital farm. Later they moved near Pryor, Okla., where he operated the farm of the General Mission Board. While there he was one of the pioneers in opening mission work at Adair, Okla., of which he was later superintendent for several years. After the mission board sold the farm, he secured a home of his own for his family near Pryor. | |||
On Jan. 1, 1951, he was stricken with paralysis from which he never fully recovered. This was followed by a succession of strokes to which he finally succumbed. He was fully resigned to his Master’s will and passed away peacefully. | |||
Surviving him are his wife; four sons, Elmer, Lloyd, Floyd, and Eli; one daughter Ferne, Mrs. Everett Sheffel, and six grandchildren, all of near Pryor; four sisters, Ursula (Mrs. Enos Miller) of Protection, Kansas, Mary of Hesston, Kansas, Nora of La Junta, Colo., and Christina (Mrs. Frank Garber) of Alpha, Minn.; eight brothers, Elias A. of La Junta, Colo., Alf B. of Hutchinson, Lewis C. of Manitou Springs, Colo., David D. of Berlin, Ohio, Noah Tucson of Pryor, Billie D. of Protection, Kans., Levi A. of Strassburg [''sic'' Strasburg], Colo., and Harold R. of Pryor. A brother Howard preceded him in death. | |||
Funeral services were conducted at the Zion Mennonite church on Tuesday, Sept. 11, with his pastor, Nelson Histand in charge, assisted by C. J. Martin. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery. | |||
