David Henry Wenger was born in Franklin Co. near Chambersburg, Pa., the son of Abram Z. and Mary Elizabeth (Brechbill) Wenger and departed this life at Schowalter Villa, Hesston, Kan. on Nov. 27, 1964 at the age of 89 years, seven months and seven days. David, the fifth of seven children, is survived by his sister Ellen B. of Chambersburg.
In his later teens he accepted Christ as his Savior and upon confession of his faith was received into the brethren in Christ church by water baptism.
On Oct. 2, 1900 he was united in marriage with Clara Amanda Meyer of Shippensburg, Pa., and came directly to Kansas on their wedding trip, making their home at Peabody. With the exception of two years spent in Artesis, N. M., the remainder of his life was spent in and around Peabody in the livestock and farming business until he moved to Hesston 11 years ago.
Two daughters were born to the Wengers, Minnie Rachel, who died at birth, and Lillian Abbey, Mrs. Clifford Stutzman of Hesston.
Having lost his companion in 1925, he did his best to take the place of both mother and father to his daughter Lillian in her formative years. Among many civic activities he found time to be a 4-H leader a number of years and organized a community "Singing" which met in the various homes of his neighborhood each Friday evening.
Those who remain to mourn his loss are his daughter Lillian and husband, Clifford Stutzman; their sons, Donnell, Duane, and Doughlas and wife Barbara with their children, David, Katherine and Stephen; a sister, Ellen B., nieces, nephews and a host of friends. — The Family.
