Long-Time Teacher Dies at Kalona
Kalona, Iowa. — Funeral services for Omar J. Rhodes, 64, long-time teacher here, were held Aug. 4 at the Kalona Mennonite Church. Rev. Carl Smeltzer, the pastor, officiated.
Mr. Rhodes died at his home east of Kalona on Aug. 1 after an illness of several months. He had taught in public schools for 44 years, the last 10 years as a member of the faculty of Mid-Prairie Junior High School in Kalona. He was a member of the Iowa City and Mt. Pleasant antique car clubs.
Surviving are his widow, the former Edna Yoder, three sons, one daughter, and six grandchildren.
