Rev. Wilbur Howard Smoker, 57, of 13053 Warwick Blvd., Providence, Va., died Friday, Apr. 14, in Riverside Hospital after a short illness.

He was pastor of Providence Mennonite Church, Warwick Blvd. and Menchville Road. Ordained in 1955, he had been a Peninsula resident for the past 17 years.

He was employed as a carpenter for Nice Brothers and was instrumental in organizing churches in Pennsylvania, Tennessee and North Carolina.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Alta M. Smoker; two daughters, Miss Rhonda R. Smoker and Mrs. Mary Anne Lee, both of Newport News; three sons, Kenneth G. Daniel J., and Vernon L., all of Newport News; his mother, Mrs. Hilda Smoker of Leola, Pa.; a sister, Miss Althea Smoker of Leola; a brother, Raymond R. Smoker of Newport News; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Apr. 16, in Providence Mennonite Church by Rev. J. Otis Yoder and assisted by Bishop Aaron F. Stoltzfus and Bishop Ira A. Kurtz. Burial was made in the church cemetery.

REV. WILBUR SMOKER

Rev. Wilbur Howard Smoker, 57, of 13053 Warwick Blvd., Providence, Va., died Friday, Apr. 14, in Riverside Hospital after a short illness.

He was pastor of Providence Mennonite Church, Warwick Blvd. and Menchville Road. Ordained in 1955, he had been a Peninsula resident for the past 17 years.

He was employed as a carpenter for Nice Brothers and was instrumental in organizing churches in Pennsylvania, Tennessee and North Carolina.
