New Holland, Pa. — Funeral services for Bishop John E. Smoker, 54, were held Dec. 24.
A bishop in the Old Order Amish Church, he died unexpectedly in the recovery room of a hospital Dec. 22 after undergoing an operation for a torn ligament in his shoulder. He had suffered the injury in a fall on ice a week earlier.
He leaves his widow, Rachel, three sons and three daughters and their families.
