Altona, Manitoba. — A 17-year-old high school student was killed and two teen-age girls critically injured in a road accident on Highway 16 about seven miles southwest of Morden on Friday night, June 19. | |||
Funeral services for Edward Wiebe, son of Mr. and Mrs. David Wiebe of Plum Coulee, were held June 23 at the Plum Coulee Bergthaler church. An estimated 1,000 persons attended the services, at which Rev. Jacob Friesen officiated, assisted by Rev. W. Wright and Rev. Bernard Wiebe. Six school friends of the young man served as pall bearers. | |||
Severely injured in the accident were Bernice Hamm of Winkler, who suffered a fractured arm, fractured jaw and face lacerations, and Emily Guenther, also of Winkler, who has a fractured skull and lacerations. Both are recovering at the Morden General hospital. | |||
The other occupant of the car, Peter Dyck, 21, of Morden had only a minor shoulder injury. | |||
The car, driven by the Wiebe youth, apparently gained momentum going down a long hill and went out of control on a curve, crashing into a steep embankment. | |||

HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH KILLED, TWO CRITICALLY INJURED IN CRASH
Altona, Manitoba. — A 17-year-old high school student was killed and two teen-age girls critically injured in a road accident on Highway 16 about seven miles southwest of Morden on Friday night, June 19.
